I've just gotta wonder What happened? How could the dev team have taken Salem and Rios, two well-defined and likable (if a bit stereotypical) characters, replaced them with two utterly forgettable idiots, and sidelined them into terribly cliché plot devices? How could they have scrapped everything that made the original's gameplay the fun, quirky co-op experience it was in favour of a terrible cross between Call of Duty and Gears of War? I legitimately could not tell the two cookie-cutter protagonists apart, the story was more clichéd than a 13-year-old's fanfic, and the fun gimmicks of partner control and co-op actions had been totally removed except for a few bland, contextual actions. The Devil's Cartel, however, was just woeful. I remember playing the first one and thinking it was a fun, gimmick-based game that had good ideas and executed them well. I snagged Army Of Two: The Devil's Cartel off Xbox Live's Gold service the other month, because it was free, and why not.
